Paint with a story to tell

Seagulls, a social enterprise in Leeds, has a compelling story and strong values, Seagulls rescue paint from landfill, process it and sell it back at a fraction of the price that big brands charge. With the profits, they fund training and employment opportunities for some of the most marginalised people across Leeds. However, they faced challenges with their marketing and brand awareness. Their message, while powerful, needed clearer communication to reach a wider audience and enhance recognition.

Enabling Seagulls to soar
To address these issues, we worked on creating a clear and focused proposition and refreshed brand assets to better support their social mission. Our approach involved a brand evolution strategy, simplified messaging, and a revamped visual identity, including photography and a full digital and print roll-out, a custom typeface, and ongoing campaign assets.

Positive results
Our creative approach and design implementation, both through social campaigns and a revised website UX helped create more awareness of Seagulls leading to an overall increase in paint sales by 40% when compared to the previous year. Having a clear, single-minded proposition and refreshed brand assets also helped rally and inspire the internal team, not just improving staff retention, but also giving renewed focus and energy to the founders. Additionally, Seagulls secured over £26,000 in funding through the Aviva Community Fund.

"Yes/No’s commitment to both support and challenge us throughout the process pushed the boundaries of our thinking. As a result, our proposition was radically sharpened, and we now have a brand that powerfully connects with our team and our customers."
